WHY I'M DOING IT

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

The reality is that one in two of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty big statistic. The good news is that we can make a tangible impact on how we treat cancer by contributing to innovative cancer research that benefits us all.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

My Updates

Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Sunday 1st Mar
Thanks to everyone who donated, who supported my posts, who shared my posts and to everyone cheering me on. Thanks to some very last day and very generous donations I achieved my A$5,000.00 donation target for cancer research for Chris O'Brien Lifehouse. This equates to 50 hours of cancer research, which brings cancer researchers valuable time to better understand and to seek cures for cancer. I hope you all enjoyed the photos and videos I shared. While the surfing commitment has been completed, donations can still be made to the 15th March.

Regular health checks

Tuesday 24th Feb
Just a reminder that it's important to keep regular health checks. I early March I'm following up with my urologist with a blood test for my prostate and later seeing a heart specialist for an echo test. Its best to be proactive with our health 😁.

The Magic of Surfing

Sunday 22nd Feb
The magic of surfing is the freedom of expression between ourselves and Mother Nature 🌏. We can play it safe surfing to our abilities or we can push ourselves in challenging conditions surfing much bigger waves facing our fears to try and conquer anything we dream. Of course we risk our health with injury, but it's the thrill of the chase of seeing what we are capable of and that adrenaline rush of catching a great wave is euphoric. We must train our bodies in fitness and in mind as most battles are in our head. Facing a cancer diagnosis also challenges our mind. Do we accept our fate or do we do everything in our power going through cancer treatment to try and fight it.

Cancer Research

Saturday 21st Feb
Did you know for every $100.00 donated it actually equates to 1 hour's research for cancer. SurFebruary have contributed to funding 26 different research projects at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse and this brings hope to many undergoing cancer treatment. 😁

URBNSURF

Friday 20th Feb
No surf today in the ocean so I'm getting under the shade of a wave at URBNSURF. The more we practice the better we become 🏄

My Colonoscopy

Thursday 19th Feb
Five years ago I had consistent reflux and I was shitting blood for too long, so I visited my GP for a referral to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Results indicated I had 2 polyps called tubular adenoma with low grade dysplasia. These were not cancerous, but are the type of polyp to turn to cancer if left to their own devices, which were removed. My window follow up was 5 years (when it's usually 10 years). I had a recent follow up with similar results - no cancer detected and the next follow up in 3 years. My message is if something doesn't seem right, then go and seek medical advice to get it check out. Early treatment gives you a better chance for a better life.

URBNSURF, Sydney

Wednesday 18th Feb
With multiple shark alarms along the Northern Beaches in Sydney and very small waves, it's great to surf some guaranteed waves at URBNSURF in Olympic Park. It caters for all surfers from beginners to professionals with technology recording your waves ridden. You can hire a surfboard, Boogie board, wetsuit and other accessories. Its a great way to improve your surfing. While I can't post videos here I am showing some of my surfing videos on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.

Get regular health checks.

Tuesday 17th Feb
Did you know that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, so it's highly likely it will happen to someone you know and those who are being treated for cancer are hoping for their "second chance" to live a better life. I will soon share with you my own brush with cancer. Just remember to get regular health checks, especially id some health issue is bothering you 🙏.

URBNSURF, Sydney

Monday 16th Feb
I had my first wave pool session at URBNSURF, Olympic Park, Sydney. The wave too fast too furious with sharp turns, wipe outs and the biggest adrenaline rush 🏄 🏄 🏄

URBNSURF, Sydney

Monday 16th Feb
I had my first wave pool session at URBNSURF, Olympic Park, Sydney on the 11th February, 2026.

It was insane full of sharp turns, wipe outs and the biggest adrenaline rush.

Tim, what you are doing matters more than you probably realise. Every paddle out in Surfebruary is a choice to be uncomfortable so someone else gets a better shot at life. That takes discipline, heart and a stubborn kind of care. Keep going, even on the rough days, because this is bigger than waves and kilometres. Proud to be doing February alongside you.
