WHY I'M DOING IT

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

My Brother Ado had skin cancer a few years ago and he had his surgery and treatment in Lifehouse by an amazingly dedicated and highly skilled team there.

My wife Bree also had surgery in Lifehouse in 2022 for Melanoma that was successfully treated.

This is my 3rd year raising money for this great organisation and glad to be back after missing last year due to a hip replacement.

I dedicate my fundraising efforts to my brother and his successful outcome fighting cancer.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

DAY 15 ISLAND BEND GUTHEGA

Sunday 15th Feb
Day 15 We headed home from Guthega and stopped at beautiful Island Bend and I had a swim in the Snowy River with Bree. Unlike Sydney the weather was perfect. The marsh flies would just about carry you away though.

DAY 14 SNOWY RIVER ILLAWONG LODGE

Sunday 15th Feb
Day 14 I reached the Surfebuary half way point! We all hiked from the Australian Ski Club Guthega to Illawong Lodge on the Snowy River under Mt Twynam. Half the party joined me for a swim in the River under the famous Shrek bridge. The weather was amazing and water temperature was a fresh 12 degrees. Later we celebrated Brees 50th Birthday in our lodge with our family and a few friends.

DAY 13 LAKE JINDABYNE

Sunday 15th Feb
Day 13 Happy 50th Birthday Bree. We travelled down to Jindabyne, Bree and I had a swim in the lake. The weather was perfect with almost no wind. We had a Birthday lunch at Lake Jindabyne Pub before heading up to Guthega to our lodge for Brees birthday weekend.

DAY 12 CASS’S POOL GORDON CANBERRA

Sunday 15th Feb
Day 12 We headed off for Brees 50th Birthday Weekend. Bree and I stayed at Cass’s place in Gordon Canberra. We hopped in her pool and did some laps before dining at the Kingston Hotel.

DAY 11 LILLI PILLI BATHS

Wednesday 11th Feb
Day 11 Flat Feb continues so I had a swim with Bree down at Lilli Pilli. Water and weather were amazing, such a beautiful afternoon.

DAY 10 WANDA BEACH CRONULLA

Wednesday 11th Feb
Day 10 Surf was almost flat in Lake Cronulla. I managed to find a bump off track 12 South of Wanda Clubhouse. I had a surprisingly fun surf on a beautiful day with no one out along the Cronulla stretch.

DAY 9 SANDSHOES CRONULLA

Tuesday 10th Feb
Day 9 I headed down to Oak Park with Bree my wife and Surfebuary team mate. Bree had a swim in the rock pool while I surfed Shoes. The waves were tiny but clean and tide was too low. It started raining so we both got out and went for a coffee.

DAY 8 GREENHILLS CRONULLA

Sunday 8th Feb
Day 8 No new swell but surprisingly super fun 1-1.5ft waves on track 6 Greenhills in front of tower. Perfect glassy conditions just a lack of swell but caught some really nice rights with only 2 other people out.

DAY 7 SANDSHOES CRONULLA

Sunday 8th Feb
Day 7 marked the end of week 1. I hit $5000 today so a huge thanks to my sponsors. I returned to Qantas for a 12 hour 5am-5pm shift. I paddled out Sandshoes and surfed 1-2ft waves on a low tide. Warm water and weather made it quite refreshing. It felt quite sharky surfing a river mouth on an overcast sunset.

DAY 6 CRONULLA SAILING & AQUATIC DAY

Friday 6th Feb
Day 6 With the swell decreasing further I decided to have some flat day fun. Captain Mike Hull took us out on the beautiful MiCat 47ft Leopard catamaran with my brother Ado and Son Rhys. We paddled the SUPs out from Darook Park to the cat. We fished from Jibbon Bommie down towards Marley followed by a sail back to Bate Bay Cronulla. We had another fish and BBQ lunch followed by a swim off the mooring in the Port Hacking River. Thanks Mike, a great day had by all.

DAY 5 SHELLY BEACH

Thursday 5th Feb
Day 5 I cracked out the 9ft Mal and meet Greg Cooper down at Shelly Beach. We scored 2 hours of fun 2ft clean waves to ourselves. Finished off with coffee across the road. Another beautiful morning in Cronulla.

DAY 4 1ST REEF BOAT HARBOUR

Wednesday 4th Feb
Day 4 I surfed 1st Rights at Merries Boat Harbour. I paddled out with my Brother Ado and Son Rhys. We scored 2 hours of fun 2-3 ft clean waves on a perfect morning with no wind. Amazing to have scored such great little waves with no one else out.

Day 3 WANDA BEACH CRONULLA

Tuesday 3rd Feb
Day 3 I surfed Wanda Beach. The Southerly finally eased and had some fun 3-4 foot fairly clean waves. After failing to meet up with my brother Ado I ended up surfing with 2 Qantas Sheeties, Elliot Yates and Steve Horner. I’ll dedicate this surf to Cam Timewell another Qantas Sheetie who is in Sutherland Hospital ICU suffering with Cancer. Thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

DAY 2 CRONULLA ROCK POOLS

Monday 2nd Feb
Day 2- I woke up from Night Shift and struggled to get out of first gear. With the Southerly still howling I headed down to South Cronulla. I paddled out to some fun 3fters behind the rock pools with only a few guys out. I came in at the alley with a short walk back to the car.

DAY 1 LILLI PILLI BATHS

Sunday 1st Feb
I kicked off Surfebuary in between 2 Qantas Night Shifts. I woke up late to a blasting Southerly so decided to have a swim with my wife Bree. We headed down to Lilli Pilli baths before I headed back to Qantas for my last night before a 5 day break.

Thank you to my Sponsors
