WHY WE’RE SUPPORTING SURFEBRUARY
Each day in February, we’re hitting the water for Surfebruary, raising funds for cancer research at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
Cancer has been part of our journey together for years. After beating breast cancer in 2022 and being told there was only a small chance it would return, we believed we had our future back and moved across the world to Australia. Just months later, Lynsey was diagnosed again — this time with metastatic breast cancer.
Like so many families, we were reminded how common cancer really is. One in two people will be affected in their lifetime, and the number of people around us who have been touched by cancer is confronting.
While this diagnosis has been a huge learning curve for both of us, we’re incredibly grateful for the advances in research that are changing what a cancer diagnosis can look like. Thanks to a new targeted treatment, Lynsey is currently doing well and able to live a full, active life — something that wouldn’t be possible without continued research.
Watching Lynsey face this with courage, and determination inspired Theo to take on this challenge. Throughout February, he’ll be swimming 1km every day, while Lynsey is committing to getting in the water daily and swimming a few very humble, grandma-style laps.
By supporting our Surfebruary challenge, you’re helping fund the early research that leads to better treatments, better outcomes, and more time for people with cancer and their families.
It only takes a minute to donate, and anything you can give — big or small — truly makes a difference.
Thank you so much for your support.

Hi Lynsey & Theo, A small gift for a good cause. I'm very inspired by the way you deal with your illness and how you share your experiences! Two years ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic intestinal disease, the effects of which I still feel every day. For me, too, relatively new medication has currently been able to offer a solution; otherwise, I would probably have lost my colon by now. What I'm trying to say is that, given the daily progress in medicine, yesterday's big problems can become tomorrow's small one's. Good luck with the fundraising and enjoy the little things. Regards, Ruben

An awesome couple swimming for an awesome cause!
