WHY I'M DOING IT
Every day in February, I am going to swim, surf, SUP, or snorkel to raise money for cancer research. Chris O'Brien Lifehouse is a not-for-profit cancer hospital offering cancer screening and treatment. Funds raised will go towards this organisation to develop and research innovative technologies to assist in early cancer diagnosis and treatment.
This organisation means a lot to me, as many of my family members have suffered greatly from cancer. My 4th Aunty has been fighting cancer for over a year, and her strength and kindness has reminded me about how unfair and difficult cancer is to those affected and their loved ones. She has asked me to "spread your kindness and joy to others," and I hope that through this organisation I can raise money to limit the impact that cancer has on so many lives.
I am also participating in this challenge for my dad, who suffered from cancer for three years before passing away in 2021. He helped me fall in love with the ocean and made it possible for me to learn to surf, and I wouldn't have this passion if it weren't for his support and encouragement to try new things. I will never forget his excitement when we were in the ocean together, whether it was pointing out a ray when snorkelling, or chucking a shukas after I stood up on a wave. Our shared passion for the ocean makes this cause so special to me.
This year, I'm doing Surfebruary in dedication to my 4th Aunty, dad, Uncle Luke, and Grandpa, as well as cancer victims and their loved ones.
No matter the size, any donations would be much appreciated 💞🏄♀️
