WHY I'M DOING IT
Every day in February, I am going to swim, surf, SUP, or snorkel to raise money for cancer research. Chris O'Brien Lifehouse is a not-for-profit cancer hospital offering cancer screening and treatment. Funds raised will go towards this organisation to develop and research innovative technologies to assist in early cancer diagnosis and treatment.
This organisation means a lot to me, as many of my family members have suffered greatly from cancer. My 4th Aunty fought cancer for over a year, and her strength and kindness has reminded me about how unfair and difficult cancer is to those affected and their loved ones. She has asked me to "spread your kindness and joy to others," and I hope that through this organisation I can raise money to limit the impact that cancer has on so many lives.
I am also participating in this challenge for my dad, who had cancer for three years. He helped me feel comfortable in the ocean and learn to surf, and I wouldn't have this passion if it weren't for his support and encouragement. Our time together in the ocean always felt special and exciting, and I am grateful for the memories that I have.
This year, I'm doing Surfebruary in dedication to my family, as well as current victims and their loved ones. No matter the size, any donations are much appreciated!!
