WHY I’M TAKING PART IN SURFEBRUARY
When I was 15 years old, my mum tragically passed away from cancer.
What started as back pain quickly turned into a devastating diagnosis. She was told she had breast cancer that had already spread throughout her body. Just one month later, she was diagnosed as terminal, and a month after that, she passed away—leaving my dad, my older sister, my older brother, and me completely heartbroken.
Throughout her treatment, we witnessed the incredible dedication and compassion of the doctors and nurses who cared for her. Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing more could be done. While my family has stayed strong over the years, the loss of my mum is something we still feel deeply to this day.
I am now 29 years old, and ever since losing her, I’ve wanted to do something meaningful to help support cancer research—so that other families facing similar situations might have better outcomes in the future.
Now living in Byron Bay, Australia, my passion for surfing and my desire to give back have come together through Surfebruary x Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
Throughout February, I’ll be surfing every single day on my trusty 7’6 board—no matter the conditions: rain, wind, flat days, or solid swell. It’s all in the spirit of generosity, positive energy, and supporting an incredible cause.
My goal is to raise $500 to help fund vital cancer research and support those in need. I’ll be sharing daily updates and videos to keep myself accountable and to bring you along on the journey.
