For a cancer-free world 🤍

Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

The reality is that one in two of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty big statistic. The good news is that we can make a tangible impact on how we treat cancer by contributing to innovative cancer research that benefits us all.

It only takes a minute to donate and anything you can give (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to helping people with cancer and their families.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

See you in the water!

My Updates

Day 18 - Yallingup Cove

Tuesday 18th Feb
What an unfortunate timing.
The forecast was not exactly right, and my friends and I paddled out right when the swell dropped. Bummer.
4 very nice waves and then we played around swapping boards. Jeez, that was impossible for me to catch waves with the guys shorties. I was a bit cooked  which probably didn't help.

Day 17 - Yall Cove

Monday 17th Feb
Yall is puuuuumping
17sec of period tend to do that 😇
I wanted to go to the Main Break but with these conditions it got quickly super crowded and I'm still not extremely confident in my placement in the line up when I'm with angry/aggro 40-50yo locals. So I sticked to Cpve and caught some very sick waves. As usual a pretry long wait in between the sets. But patience is rewarded. I engage the rail more and more on my take-offs. Happy with my session and what I did.

Day 16 - Moses Rock

Monday 17th Feb
Waking up at 5.00 on a Sunday morning is brutal especially after a night out, but it was our only chance to find a ripple to glide on today. Back at Moses (Honeycombs was busy AS HELL), very flat. We caught Marie and I 3 waves each before it turns really pancake flat

Day 15 - Moses Rocks

Monday 17th Feb
My friend Marie has came all the way from Perth to join me for a full week end of surf.
Moses is not really pumping, but there are a couple of waves and we're like 7 in the water.
Caught several ones, manages to do one decent enough top turn.
Ended up in the shallow rocks pushed by the white wash and cut my thigh pretty deep. But lovely session overall

Day 14 - Smiths Beach

Monday 17th Feb
Omg 4 days late to update you on.
Smiths on Friday was smaller than small.
I managed to catch maybe 15 waves in 1h30 but so slow and short that I'm bot sure we can qualify them as waves.
Still fun and a good pop up training.

Day 13 - Yallingup Cove

Thursday 13th Feb
I was expecting huge conditions.. and Yallingup delivered its specialty: flat as for 20min and then massive set.
Caught one hella great right hander (maybe the best of my short surfing life) but the whitewash pushed me onto the reef and my foot was bleeding enough to convince me to paddle in after only 1h in the water. 3 waves caught, all nice ones.
Short but good ✨️

Day 12 - Rocky Point

Thursday 13th Feb
My mental has failed.
The conditions were not outstanding but there was a wave or 2 that I could have caught.. but the atmosphere in the line up has completely wiped off my focus making me angry.
I missed 75% of my take offs making mistakes I'm not usually doing. I got to work on that. Still 5 waves caught but shitty ones and in 2h

Day 11 - Huzzas

Tuesday 11th Feb
Shitty session.y as hell (40km/h cross) Messy with a tiny period. High tide and big rips. I must have stayed no longer than 30min in the water. Caught 4 waves and gave up... but I paddled at least (?)

Days 9 & 10 - Pancake flat

Tuesday 11th Feb
I can't create waves unfortunately.. so 2 days of balance board and gym 🫠

Day 8 - Three Bears

Saturday 8th Feb
What a day! A breeze of adventure.
My friend Craig brought me for the 1st time to Three Bears. To access it, you had to go through a dirt road requiring a good 4WD. It's a commitment and I loved it. I can't wait to be good enough to go exploring some very remote locations. Me, my board and the adventure.

A few people in the water, some nice head high waves and a bright sun. Caught about 6 but messed up around 10 pop ups. 🫠

Day 7 - Yallingup Cove

Saturday 8th Feb
Heavy day at Yallingup: sizey waves and a lot of people in the water.
Only left handers for me today with some atempts of bottom turns. Top turns are not quite a thing yet but we're on it!
13 waves caught today, 3h in the water. A lot of wait between the sets in the end. Overall happy especially that I didn't freak out!

Moses and a beautiful blue sky

Thursday 6th Feb

Day 6 - Moses Rock

Thursday 6th Feb
What. A. Day.
No expectations at all considering the tremendous amount of wind today, but my friend Craig and I found a wave in Moses Rock. A lot of wait between the sets, but gorgeous chest high waves breaking for ages. 10-12 caught, some nice drops and a LOT of fun.

Day 5 - Grunters

Wednesday 5th Feb
What. A. Nightmare. Cross wind, big swell. 1h getting washed out and/or pounded.
1h catching whitewash that reforms (and God I hate that) + paddling like crazy because of the current 🫠

But hey, we made it and my paddle definitely improved from that session!

Day 4 - Yallingup Cove

Wednesday 5th Feb
The conditions wete pitched perfect for.. 10min and then the wind turned full onshore and it became messy as hell. Only 3 waves caught in 1h but a nice top turn on the left, I start to understand the mechanics around the turns

Day 3 - Missed

Wednesday 5th Feb
Little medical emergency, but I'll compensate with a double session next week end 😌

Day 2 - Yallingup Cove

Wednesday 5th Feb
Bigger conditions on day 2, strong current and a lot of water but happy that I managed to catch a few (6, with 2 right handers)
2nd day in a row that we are joined by a pod of dolphins 🐬

Day 1 - Yallingup Cove

Saturday 1st Feb
Very small conditions this morning for the 1st session of this Surfebruary challenge but a lot of fun with quite an empty line-up.
5 waves ridden to the left and 1 on my back-hand side. A few turns and a little attempt to cross step on my 7'0 🤠
